US President Donald Trump has given Iran a 48-hour deadline to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, issuing strong warnings amid rising regional tensions.

Speaking on the matter, Trump said that if Iran failed to reopen the key shipping route, the United States would target its power infrastructure.

He also claimed that Iran was seeking a deal, but indicated he was not in favour of it.

The US president further asserted that Iran’s leadership had been eliminated and that the country had been effectively wiped off the map.

He added that Iran’s naval and air capabilities had been completely destroyed, claiming that the US was operating ahead of its planned schedule.

The remarks come at a time of heightened tensions in the region, with concerns growing within the international community over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global energy corridor.
