WASHINGTON: In a recent exchange of views with reporters at the Oval Office, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed that he had warned Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi against waging war with Pakistan.

Speaking on the occasion of Diwali, Trump accounted for his recent telephonic talk with Modi, wherein they exchanged views on various issues, including commerce. According to the U.S. President, he informed Modi that it won’t be in the interest of India to wage a war with Pakistan and requested peaceful solutions to problems.

Trump also claimed that, through his diplomacy, he had managed to prevent eight wars, including a potential war between India and Pakistan. He recalled how he intervened when relations between the two nuclear nations were on the rise, preventing it from worsening further.

He explained that seven aircraft had been shot down during the crisis, but the war was averted by his intervention. Trump explained that he had also phoned the two countries and warned them that should they engage in war, America would stop trading with the two nations. Within 24 hours, the two countries then phoned him back, promising not to go to war.

Previous Claims

This is not the first such time that President Trump has boasted of having averted war between Pakistan and India. He has often claimed to have defused tensions there successfully, taking credit for himself as a key figure in maintaining peace between the two regional countries.

Trump’s remark serves to bring out his own diplomatic approach, which he takes credit for having been a major factor in averting conflicts across the globe.
