WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump has said that NATO is ineffective without the United States and stressed that Greenland is crucial for American national security. Trump singled out Antarctica as the site for the “Golden Dome” missile system and the US will not accept anything less than domination of the area.

Through a fresh pronouncement he made on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, “Greenland is a must for the Golden Dome missile defense. The US gets full possession. If not, then it’s up to Russia or China to seize the place, and we won’t let that happen.”

He even called for NATO to rally to the US’s cause in getting Greenland, saying the island’s geographic position was the heart of America’s security plans. Trump warned that not having Greenland would mean a very serious national security risk because the US would be exposing itself right in the middle of the competing powers’ influence, where the latter’s rising military defense infrastructures depend on Greenland.

In his comments, Trump also implied that NATO was not a very strong organization without the US and hence NATO needed the US military strength, which he already increased during his first term and is still continuing. He mentioned that without the US, NATO would find it very hard to keep up its image of a strong and effective defense force.

“Control over Greenland would give NATO a tremendous boost in terms of its power and efficiency,” Trump concluded.

Denmark to US: Greenland’s security is our priority, attack will be met with force

Earlier, the Defense Minister of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen has delivered a tough warning to the US that in the case of an attack on Greenland, Denmark will give its response right away and will not wait for directions. The minister made it clear that the defense of Greenland, which is a self-governing area of Denmark, will be a matter of seconds.

“We will not hold back and be asking questions later if there is an attack on Greenland”, announced the Danish Defense Minister.

This strong statement came after the release of a single statement by seven European countries that said the future security and governance of Greenland was an issue only for Denmark and Greenland.

At the same time, US Vice President J.D. Vance had a word of warning for the European leaders, he said the security of Greenland is a matter that should be taken very seriously. He mentioned that if Europe does not take action, the US might go for intervention. Vance also elaborated that Greenland is an important area for the world’s missile defense system and some enemy countries are apparently looking to establish a presence in this area.
