KALAM: After heavy snowfall in the most visited areas of Swat, particularly Kalam and Mahodand Lake, only those vehicles with fitted snow chains would be allowed to pass through. Over 250 cars, among which were women and children, were rejected from the tourists’ best sites.
The Upper Swat Development Authority (USDA) was very quick to react and enacted measures that provided security for the tourists since the slippery roads had caused a few accidents. So, all the travellers were carefully sent back to prevent any accidents.
In a statement, the USDA, spokesperson explained that the directive came straight from the Director General, Shozeb Abbas. The government has deployed the tourism police, field personnel, and advanced equipment at major tourist spots, including Kalam, Malam Jabba, and other high-traffic areas.
The representative mentioned that most of the cars that were halted either lacked snow chains or the drivers did not take the required measures because of the harsh weather conditions. The prompt rescue operation has effectively averted accidents.
Tourists are warned to adhere to the safety protocols put in place by the USDA and the Tourism Department. Besides using snow chains and other protective gear, they should not undertake any risky activities in order to view Swat’s natural beauty in a secure environment.
