ISLAMABAD: The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) have made it public that a few segments of the motorways would be closed because of fog that hangs over the areas.

NHMP said that the very dense fog on Tuesday night made the road a very dangerous place for cars and hence the section of the M-1 motorway from Peshawar Main Toll Plaza (Kilometre 498) to Rashakai Swabi was closed.

The routes that have been closed so far are:

M-1: From Peshawar to Swabi is closed.

M-2: From Islamabad to Lahore is closed.

M-3: From Faizpur to Jaranwala is closed.

M-4: From Pindi Bhattian to Faisalabad is closed.

M-5: From Rohri to Rahim Yar Khan is closed.

M-11: From Lahore to Sialkot is closed.

The NHMP (National Highways and Motorway Police) has warned drivers to steer clear of the impassable roadways and remain in the loop with the official sources. The dense mist that has enveloped a vast part of the nation is probably still going to hold back the vehicles for several more hours.

Motorists are given a reminder to exercise utmost care during driving on the free roads and in addition, they should postpone any journey until the conditions return to normal. Accidents resulting from the low visibility will be dealt with as emergency teams have been dispatched to rescue the stuck drivers and clear the road.

The weather pattern has triggered a seasonal reminder of the difficulties that affect road safety in the area.
