The Jaffar Express, travelling from Peshawar to Quetta, derailed near the Dasht track in Balochistan due to a technical fault.

According to railway officials, three bogies of the train derailed; one bogie overturned, while the other two derailed without overturning.

Immediately after the accident, rescue teams were dispatched to the scene, and the injured were transported to a nearby hospital by ambulance. Railway officials reported that all passengers of the Jaffar Express have safely evacuated the accident site, and the train has now been fully cleared.

Media reported a blast that is contrary to the fact.

Chief Secretary Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Shahab Ali Shah, presided over a meeting of the Secretaries’ Committee, attended by the Senior Member Board of Revenue, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), and secretaries of various provincial departments.

The forum reviewed progress on governance roadmap reforms and departmental performance, with officials reporting that 138 reforms under the good governance roadmap across 16 departments are on track against timelines, 14 have been completed, and 97 require accelerated implementation.

The Chief Secretary emphasised that the benefits of these reforms must directly reach the public and stressed the need for close coordination between the Planning & Development and Finance departments with all other departments to achieve good governance objectives. Updates were presented on public complaints via the Ikhtyaar Awaam Ka app, the Litigation Management System, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Digital Workspace, and district-level delivery initiatives.

CS Shahab Ali Shah instructed administrative secretaries to personally review critical cases and legal matters in their departments on the litigation management system. He directed that merit and performance should be the sole criteria for key managerial appointments, with departmental placement committees established to ensure transparency. He also emphasised strict adherence to the rotation policy for postings and transfers.
