PESHAWAR: The wintry weather has become more demanding in the last weeks of winter with the coming of rain and snow in different places, while at the same time, the temperature has dropped drastically. The massive amounts of snow that fell have not yet melted and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa mountains are slowly getting covered in snow as if a thick white coat has been put on them.

The districts of Dir, Chitral, and Azad Kashmir along with Gilgit-Baltistan have all received heavy snowfall that has drastically altered and affected the winter landscape of the whole region.

The winter season has been the major draw for tourists to Gilgit, Dir, and Kalam because of the snow. Visitors have flocked to the Lowari Tunnel area in the District of Dir to witness the snow. Not only Swat but the surrounding areas likewise, namely, Kalam, Malam Jabba, etc., have received the snow which has turned the whole area into a scenic winter paradise.

Furthermore, the light shower had a slight impact on the temperature and increased the chill factor in the mountains of Abbottabad and Galyat, which were already cold. The provincial capital, Peshawar, which is also the capital city of the province, was already suffering from intense rainfall as a result of the thick clouds that had settled over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The areas of the province where the heaviest snowfalls have occurred are so cold that people are starting to draw comparisons to some European countries and think about winter in terms of such places. In Neelum Valley, the higher regions are now all white and snow is still falling in Upper Neelum, Urdang Kiel, and other areas. Meanwhile, Chilas has also experienced snowfall that has been non-stop since last night, and the cold has just gotten more severe.
