TORKHAM: A total 3,863 Afghan citizens including men, women and children left for Afghanistan after registering at the NADRA Immigration Center Torkham on Thursday.

Pakistan has partially opened the Torkham border for the return of Afghan citizens and families to Afghanistan.

According to official sources, on November 6, 3,863 Afghan citizens including men, women and children left for Afghanistan after registering at the NADRA Immigration Center Torkham.

‎Officials said the border has been opened only for the return process, while trade activities and foot traffic remain suspended on both sides.

‎According to sources, a large number of citizens returning to Afghanistan reached Torkham from different cities of Pakistan, where they were allowed to cross the border after their documents were checked.

‎It may be recalled that the Torkham border was closed in October due to border clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan, after which the movement of trade convoys and ordinary passengers was completely suspended.

‎According to trade organizations, the closure of the border is causing losses of crores of rupees between the two countries every day. Talks are underway between Pak-Afghan authorities for the complete restoration of the border, however, no final decision has been announced yet.

‎Pakistan has launched a countrywide operation to return illegally residing Afghan citizens, under which thousands of Afghan families are voluntarily returning home. According to official data, thousands of people have returned to Afghanistan via the Torkham and Chaman borders so far.
