PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has completed three projects with a total capacity of 63 megawatts from the locally funded source. These projects are expected to generate a revenue of Rs 4.4 billion for the area and help in the supply of cheap power to the industrial sector.
A progress review meeting for seven hydropower projects took place at PEDO House chaired by Secretary of Energy and Power Nisar Ahmed. In the meeting, he mentioned that the construction of a 40-kilometer transmission line, along the Swat Corridor, has been expedited and is anticipated to be finished by year.
Summarizing the meeting PEDO Chief Executive Officer Habibullah mentioned that three hydropower projects totalling 63MW have been finalized this year. The projects in question are the 40.8MW Koto hydropower project in Dir, the 11.8MW Karora project in Shangla, and the 10.2MW Jabori project in Mansehra.
He added that the department is putting all its energy and resources into huge projects like the 300MW Balakot Mansehra project, 157MW Madain Swat, 88MW Gabrial Kalam, 84MW Matiltan Swat, 69MW Lawi Chitral, and the 6.9MW Mujahideen Power Project in Torghar.
Conveying worry about the sluggish advancement of three key energy initiatives in Swat district, the Secretary of Energy established a timeline to initiate the generation of 330MW of power from these projects within the upcoming two years. He instructed the respective project directors to guarantee completion, cautioning that any postponements would not be tolerated.
Nisar Ahmed added that the Energy Department is closely monitoring all projects on a daily basis through Gantt charts under the provincial government’s good governance roadmap, and has instructed PEDO officials to work with strong coordination and teamwork.
