KOHAT: Three police personnel, including a DSP, were martyred when miscreant elements opened fire on a police mobile on Shakardar Road in Kohat district, Kohat, on Tuesday morning.
DPO Kohat told the media that the incident occurred when a police mobile was passing through the area for routine patrolling. As a result of the firing, DPS Asad Mahmood and his two gunmen succumbed to injuries before being shifted to the hospital.
Rescue teams and additional police reinforcements rushed to the site. While the victims were immediately moved to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, medical officials confirmed they had succumbed to their injuries before arrival.
A large-scale “combing operation” has been launched in the Lachi and Shakardara areas. Security forces have sealed all entry and exit points to the district.
Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) teams have collected bullet shells and other evidence from the site to identify the group responsible. Funeral prayers for the martyrs are scheduled to be held later today at the Police Lines Kohat with full official honours, attended by high-ranking civil and military officials.
This attack follows a series of high-profile security incidents in the region, including a drone-assisted ambush on an FC post and ambulances in nearby Karak just 24 hours prior.
Local authorities have expressed deep concern over the increasing frequency of targeted attacks against law enforcement leadership in the district.
