ISLAMABAD: Meta’s Instagram Threads has unveiled a new group messaging feature that will let users communicate and share with a maximum of 50 people.
The feature, which was made available to all users on Wednesday, is one of the biggest updates to the platform that focuses on text and is very ambitious in its aim to provide a way for users to connect socially as well as privately.
Meta has announced that users above the age of 18 will be allowed to send and share text posts, videos, GIFs, and emojis within group chats which will create a more interactive environment like that of popular messaging apps.
Despite this, Emily Dalton Smith, Vice President of Product Management at Threads, made it clear during a live session that the group chats will not be end-to-end encrypted so the conversations will not get the same level of privacy protection as Meta’s encrypted services like WhatsApp that claim to be end-to-end encrypted.
