PESHAWAR: More than 2,400 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan in a single day through the Torkham border, according to data released by the Centre Control Room for the repatriation of illegal foreigners in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The returns took place as part of the ongoing repatriation process of undocumented foreigners from the province. Official figures show that a total of 2,414 Afghan nationals crossed into Afghanistan via the Torkham border during the day.
Among them, 1,742 refugees holding Proof of Registration (PoR) cards returned through Torkham. The data further revealed that 186 Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders and 686 undocumented Afghan immigrants also returned to their homeland on the same day.
According to the breakdown, 1,542 PoR card holders, 186 ACC holders, and 558 undocumented immigrants returned voluntarily, while 128 Afghan refugees were deported.
Cumulative figures since the start of the repatriation drive indicate that 233,931 POR card holders, 71,964 ACC holders, and 688,004 undocumented Afghan immigrants have returned to Afghanistan from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
These returns took place through the Torkham, Angoor Adda, and Kharlachi border crossings.
The repatriation process remains ongoing under the supervision of provincial authorities.
