CHARASDDA: Thieves in the Mandani and Tangi areas of Charsadda took away valuable coils and oil of the transformer, leaving the transformer in damaged condition on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the limits of Mandani police station, when unknown thieves stole coils and oil from two 50kv and one 100kv power transformers last night. Similarly, in another case, unknown thieves stole coils and oil from a 50kv power transformer from Yasin Korona under the limits of Tangi police station.

According to the residents of the area, these incidents are not ordinary but appear to be the work of an organized group that is targeting valuable government property without any fear.  Theft of coils and oil from transformers is not only causing millions of rupees of loss to the national exchequer, but also causing severe hardship to the citizens due to prolonged power outages.

The residents of the area said that the repeated occurrence of such incidents is clear proof of the negligence of police patrols, intelligence systems, and relevant departments. The question arises as to how it is possible to remove valuables from huge transformers without local facilitation and supervision.

If timely and effective action is not taken, this transformer thief will take over more areas. Expressing extreme anger, the citizens have demanded that the police immediately register an FIR, conduct an investigation on modern lines, arrest the involved group, and recover the stolen goods.

The residents of the area strongly demand that the district police and the WAPDA department take immediate and practical steps, conduct an indiscriminate operation against the transformer thieves, and restore electricity to the affected areas immediately; otherwise, the entire responsibility of the severe public protest will fall on the concerned institutions.
