ISLAMABAD: One of the modern habits that seem to be innocent has been found to be the reason why young people become aged prematurely. Their wrinkles and sagging skin especially around the neck and the chin are the most affected areas.
Experts in health have also come up with a similar explanation that looking down at a smartphone, a computer, or a tablet for many hours can speed up skin aging around the neck, a condition which is commonly called “tech neck”.
What Is Tech Neck?
“Tech neck” is a term that denotes the occurrence of wrinkles, fine lines, and loose skin around the neck as a result of the one who is using a digital device constantly bends the neck downward.
As per their explanation, the skin covering the neck is thinner and more delicate than other parts of the body so although wrinkles are natural for the aged, they now appear in younger people at a much earlier age due to their lifestyle.
They also mention that deep neck lines can be found in people of both young and middle age groups, thus the combination of sun exposure and device use is the most common cause of these deep lines on the neck.
Can It Be Prevented?
On the bright side, tech neck can be avoided, according to experts, by making a few simple changes to one’s lifestyle.
The interventions they suggest are:
Correcting your posture, placing your screen at the level of your eyes to be able to look straight ahead and thus not to bend the neck.
Cutting down on the time that you spend looking at the screen, if that is possible.
Applying sunscreen to protect the neck area from getting premature wrinkles.
Following a skincare routine that involves using hydrating and collagen-supporting products.
Other Effects of Excessive Screen Use
Health professionals also caution that putting oneself in front of a screen for too long can lead to the formation of wrinkles in the area around the eyes, the appearance of dark circles, and the loss of collagen, thus speeding up aging.
The blue light that comes from the devices can also slowly but surely put the finishing touches on skin damage already in progress, and at the same time hinder sleep which is a natural way that the body uses to rejuvenate, both of which result in the appearance of aging signs prematurely.
