DOHA: Qatar has ordered two Iranian diplomats to leave the country within 24 hours following a missile attack on a key gas facility, amid rising regional tensions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Qatar has declared that all military and security personnel from Iran together with their accompanying team must depart the country because they have been designated as persona non grata. Officials made this decision after they observed the Iranians conducting their pattern of aggressive operations which had happened multiple times.

The missile strike targeted the Ras Laffan Industrial City which exists northeast of Doha. The site operates as a major LNG production facility which ranks among the largest liquefied natural gas production sites in the entire world.

QatarEnergy which operates as a state-owned enterprise confirmed that the attack caused major destruction to their facilities while all staff members remained unharmed because they had achieved complete safety. The authorities deployed civil defense teams to manage the emergency situation which had developed.

The incident represents a significant increase in hostilities between Qatar and Iran which have maintained friendly relations since their common gas field discovery. The latest developments signal one of the most serious strains in their relationship in recent years.
