KURRAM: Tal Parachinar Main Highway remained blocked for all types of traffic and movement for the third day on Monday due to the murder of local tribal Gul Marjan.
Life is affected due to the road closure, and passengers and sick people face difficulties due to the road blockade. The body of tribal elder Gul Marjan of village Mali Khel was found on the banks of the Kurram River last night. A young man from the village of Bushehra has also been missing for the past three days; a search is underway for his safe recovery.
District administration Kurram is holding negotiations with the local community to open the main road for traffic. The road has been closed to deal with the tense situation and any unpleasant incident.
Meanwhile, local tribes of the Tirah Valley have given conditional permission to the military operation and possible displacement. A jirga was held under the chairmanship of local tribal leaders, in which the people submitted a detailed list of 27 demands to the security authorities.
In this regard, tribal leader Malik Zahir Shah, while addressing the jirga, said that the consent of the people is entirely conditional on their demands being accepted in writing and full protection being provided during the operation.
The demands presented in the jirga include the return and rehabilitation of the people within two months after the completion of the operation, an advance of Rs 500,000, and a monthly financial assistance of Rs 100,000 to each family.
Besides, they also demanded the construction of educational institutions in the Tirah Maidan, provision of health, water, and electricity facilities, and compensation for damaged land and property. According to Malik Zahir Shah, “The displacement will be implemented only after a written agreement and assurance from the security authorities on the demands.
