England secured a victory over Sri Lanka by 51 runs in the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup, strengthening their position in the race for the semi-finals.

The match took place at Pallekele Stadium, where Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and chose to bat first. England posted a score of 147 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Phil Salt played a standout innings, scoring 62 runs, while Jos Buttler was dismissed for just 7 runs. Other notable contributions came from Jacob Bethell with 3 runs, Tom Benton with 6, Harry Brook with 14, and Sam Curran with 11 runs.

In response to the target of 147 runs, Sri Lanka managed to score only 95 runs in their 20 overs, resulting in a clear victory for England. Dasun Shanaka was the top scorer for Sri Lanka, contributing 30 runs. Kamindu Mendis added 13 runs, while both Dunith Villalage and Mahesh Thakshana scored 10 runs each. No other player reached double figures.

On the bowling front, England’s Dominic Domingues excelled as the best bowler. Will Jacks took three wickets, while Jofra Archer, Liam Dawson, and Adil Rashid each claimed two wickets, effectively bunding out the Sri Lankan side for 95 runs.
