SWABI: Heavy rain has caused water to flood homes in Sawabi district, turning what should be a nice experience into something that has caused significant problems for residents. Gandaf Gadon has been one of the worst-affected areas of the rain.

Residents say that constant road construction has caused their neighborhood to dip lower and lower with each reconstruction. Since their homes are at a lower level, rainwater runs directly into the homes.

The residents of the area complained about the lack of government response. They claimed that not a single official of any department has taken up their losses. Government officials urged to pay heed and take action to prevent more damage in the area.

Earlier on 15 September, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has predicted heavy rains and glacial lake outburst flood (GLOF) events in various parts of the province in the next 48 hours.

The PDMA Khyber Pakhtunkhwa issued an alert on Monday, stating that there are chances of heavy rains and GLOF in the northern areas of the province.

The PDMA statement has advised the residents of Upper and Lower Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan to remain vigilant concerning potential glacier eruptions.

The district administration has been instructed to monitor sensitive areas closely and to conduct timely warnings and evacuation drills. Additionally, people are urged to avoid unnecessary movement near rivers and refrain from driving vehicles through fast-flowing water.

Evacuation sites are prepared in areas that may be affected, and emergency equipment and rescue services have been put on alert. Tourists are also advised to be cautious and take necessary precautions in the event of any emergencies.
