ISLAMABAD: Although sleep and exercise are both commonly recognized as vital for maintaining health a recent study indicates that giving precedence to sleep might provide advantages than engaging in physical exercise.

Published in the journal Communications Medicine, the research analysed data from over 70,000 participants worldwide, collected over three and a half years, focusing on sleep patterns and daily physical activity.

The research revealed that many individuals have difficulty achieving the suggested standards for sleep and physical activity. Although 17% of the subjects slept under seven hours each night. Took fewer than 5,000 steps daily merely one, out of eight participants fulfilled both criteria.

Researchers state that a lack of sleep coupled with minimal physical activity raises the likelihood of chronic illnesses, obesity and psychological health issues.

The study highlighted that aiming for least seven hours of sleep each night can enhance general health and boost physical activity levels. It also advised steering of screens before sleeping keeping a regular sleep routine and establishing a peaceful environment for rest.

The researchers acknowledged limitations in the study, as it relied on data from personal tracking devices. Nevertheless, they concluded that prioritizing sleep enhances energy levels, motivation, and capacity for physical activity, making it a key strategy for maintaining overall health.

Simple diet changes can lower heart attack risk, new research reveals

A recent research has shown that regularly eating foods in polyphenols can greatly lower the chance of heart conditions, such, as heart attacks and strokes.

Researchers at King’s College London have found that individuals who regularly consume foods in polyphenols, like tea, coffee, berries, nuts, whole grains and olive oil generally experience improved heart health over the long term.

Polyphenols are naturally occurring substances in plants that help maintain the heart, brain and digestive health. The research involved over 3,100 adults whose well-being was observed for, than a decade. Urine specimens were examined to see how their bodies metabolized polyphenols.

The results indicated that people who ate quantities of these foods experienced reduced blood pressure and cholesterol greatly lowering their chances of cardiovascular diseases.

Researchers​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌ found that small regular intake of one of the following products: tea, coffee, nuts or berries can protect the heart from getting old. In their observation, they stressed that long-lasting eating habits rich in polyphenols greatly reduce the chance of diseases.

This research which is reported in the journal BMC Medicine, is a call to the world of the abundance of foods rich in polyphenols and their great potential to enhance people’s heart health globally. Cardiovascular problems are still the major reason for death all over the world, and the danger is getting higher with​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌age.
