ISLAMABAD: Experts have reiterated that by getting good sleep, it is possible to decrease belly fat and also cut down the chances of breast cancer.

The study has pointed out that bad sleep, chronic stress, and abdominal fat are the three main factors that increase breast cancer risk in women. According to the researchers, lifestyle changes and metabolic shifts are the factors that have been increasing the risks, and even younger women are now being affected.

The study, which includes data from worldwide research institutions, connected poor sleep and disruption of the body’s internal biological clock to a higher risk of breast cancer.

Experts pointed out that poor sleep has an effect on the secretion of the melatonin hormone, the balance of oestrogen, immune system functioning, and DNA repair. These factors are not the only ones responsible, but when they are combined with obesity, chronic stress, lack of physical activity, and an unhealthy lifestyle, the risk for cancer increases tremendously.

Poor sleep is not on the same level as unchangeable factors like age or genetic predisposition, which continue to be strong predictors of cancer risk. But, sleep deprivation has now been recognized as a significant, modifiable risk factor.

From a medical perspective, it has been noted that women who have long-term sleep deprivation, work night shifts, suffer from high-stress, or have metabolic disorders are at greater risk of developing breast cancer.

Main Conclusions

Poor sleep and abdominal fat are associated with a greater chance of getting breast cancer.

Interfered sleep leads to hormone imbalance and lowered immune system performance.

Obesity and stress are some of the lifestyle factors that hurt cancer risk and these factors increase the risk of cancer even more.

The experts point out that boosting sleep quality might be one of the major factors to reduce the increasing breast cancer risk, especially in women who lead hard lifestyles.
