KURRAM: In view of the recent tension and security situation on the Pak-Afghan border (Kharlachi) in Kurram district, the district administration has closed 77 educational institutions in the border areas for an indefinite period. These schools include both boys and girls, due to which thousands of students are afraid of losing the academic year.

Due to the firing and border disputes on the Pak-Afghan border in recent days, the Kharlachi border and adjacent trade routes have been closed. Due to security threats, the administration decided to close these schools as a precautionary measure to protect the lives of students and teachers.

Schools in the nearby border villages of Kharlachi, Borshki, Pewar, and Tri Mangal have been the most affected. The closure of schools at a crucial juncture of the academic year is not only affecting daily lessons but also preparation for exams.

Local parents, teachers, and social circles have expressed deep concern over the situation. The repeated closures are causing frustration among students, and they are lagging behind students from other districts.

The sounds of firing on the border and the closure of schools are causing fear and panic among children.  The elders of the area have demanded that the government restore peace on the border and open educational institutions as soon as possible by providing alternative security.

If these educational institutions remain closed for a long time, the literacy rate in the Kurram district will fall, and the risk of youth becoming misguided will also increase. Along with the economic damage caused by the closure of the Pak-Afghan trade route, the “education crisis” is also intensifying.
