Strong earthquake tremors were felt near the city of Narsingdi in Bangladesh, which was recorded as having a magnitude of 5.7 on reactor scale.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the epicenter of the earthquake was about 10 kilometers below the surface of the Earth. According to Reuters, earthquake tremors were also felt in the eastern parts of the country, including the capital, Dhaka. US Geological Survey said that Narsingdi is located about 40 kilometers east of the capital, Dhaka.

Residents said that the tremors caused people to come out of their homes, and some fragile buildings to collapse. Local media reports showed people carrying children and the elderly to safety.

Sadman Sakib, a resident of Dhaka, who works in a private firm, said, “I have never felt such strong tremors in my life. We were in the office when suddenly the furniture started shaking. We immediately came down and saw other people on the road who had also come out.”

Three people died, and all relevant agencies are monitoring to respond immediately to any possible threat. The tremors of the earthquake were also felt in Dhaka as well as in the eastern border areas of India. It is important to mention that last night’s earthquake also shook the northern areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with a 4.7 magnitude; however, no losses to life were reported.
