MINGORA: Heavy snowfall has brought about the prohibition of vehicles without snow chains as part of the extensive safety measures that the Swat region authorities have put into place for those tourists who travel there. More than 200 vehicles that were on their way to the Mahodand and Paloga lakes were stopped from advancing due to the lack of proper snow gear.
The snowy region has provided marvelous views of postcards, and the beautiful winter scenery has attracted people from all over the country to witness the winter season. Unfortunately, some of these unfortunates turned out to be small vehicles that lost control and rode down the frigid roads. The incidents not only caused injuries but also claimed a few lives.
The Upper Swat Development Authority (USDA) together with district administration, Swat Police, Tourism Police, and other authorities has launched a joint operation to make sure the tourists are safe. This was disclosed by the USDA spokesperson, Saeed Ur Rehman.
The tourists were provided with instructions to stick to the safe alternative routes and at the same time, would be informed about the safety measures.
Rehman informed that it is extremely risky to move about in snowy places without the correct snow chains. Hence, the entry of such vehicles that do not have the required gear has been completely banned.
The Upper Swat Development Authority has advised tourists to:
Ensure availability of snow chains before travel
Maintain low speed and avoid overtaking
Drive in a single line
Avoid non-essential travel
Check the overall condition of the vehicle, including brakes and tyres
Rehman urged tourists to strictly follow the instructions of the administration and tourism police, act responsibly, and prioritize safety, so that tourism in Swat remains safe, enjoyable, and memorable.
