BRISBANE: Mitchell Starc, Australia’s arm fast bowler, has made history by surpassing former Pakistani great Wasim Akram’s 23-year-old record, for the highest number of Test wickets taken by a left-arm fast bowler.

Starc reached the milestone on Thursday in the pink-ball Ashes Test versus England, at the Gabba, where he took the wickets of Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook in the innings.

Starc exceeded Wasim Akram’s total of 414 wickets a milestone the Pakistani legend reached across 104 Test encounters.

Starc achieved 415 Test wickets during his career making him the left-arm fast bowler with the most wickets in Test cricket history.

For context, the record for the most Test wickets by any fast bowler is held by England’s former great James Anderson, who has taken 704 wickets in 188 matches.

Record-breaker! Markram takes 9 catches to enter cricket history

South African cricketer Aiden Markram has set a new world record, for the highest number of catches taken by a fielder (excluding wicketkeepers) in one Test match.

South Africa beat India by 408 runs, in the Guwahati Test securing a 2–0 series whitewash.

India faced a target of 549 runs in their second innings yet the full team was dismissed for only 140 runs.

South Africa’s fielders had an impact, on this substantial victory with Aiden Markram notably excelling through his outstanding catching.

On day five Markram secured his catch of the game by catching Washington Sundar off Simon Harmer’s delivery. This catch established a global record for the most catches by a fielder, in a single Test match.

The previous record was held by India’s Ajinkya Rahane, who took 8 catches against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test in 2017.
