Bangladesh refuses to travel to India for T20 World Cup

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has put forward the same reasons for not sending its national team to India for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup security concerns and government directives.

The BCB, after a meeting with an ICC delegation in Dhaka, made an official announcement stating that the tournament’s participation of Bangladesh was discussed in detail in ICC’s presence. The board once again made a formal request that Bangladesh’s World Cup matches be played in a different venue outside India.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) during the talks brought up their security worries and the orders of the Bangladeshi government as per the statement. The discussions were characterized as constructive, polite, and professional with each party freely expressing their views on the issue.

The issue of transferring Bangladesh to a different group, considering logistics, was one of the topics of the meeting.

The ICC team comprised of Gaurav Saxena, General Manager Events and Corporate Communications, and Andrew Efrati, General Manager of the Integrity Unit. Due to a delay in the processing of his visa, Gaurav Saxena attended the meeting virtually.

The BCB and the ICC have agreed to keep the communication channel open on this matter for the next few days in order to find a solution that works for both parties.
