DUBAI: Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa has set a benchmark, in Test cricket. South Africa beat India by 408 runs, in the Guwahati Test securing a 2–0 series whitewash, on Wednesday.

In the innings India was set a target of 549 runs yet the whole Indian lineup was dismissed for only 140 runs.

By securing this victory South Africa claimed a Test series triumph in India for the time, in a quarter of a centuryTest .

This triumph also established Temba Bavuma as the captain with the number of Test victories, without a single defeat.

Serving as captain Bavuma has guided South Africa through 12 Test matches securing victory in 11 and drawing one. Under his leadership no team has managed to beat South Africa in a Test match.

Before Bavuma, this record was held by former England captain Mike Brearley, who had 10 wins in 15 Tests without any defeat.

South African cricketer Aiden Markram has set a new world record, for the highest number of catches taken by a fielder (excluding wicketkeepers) in one Test match.

South Africa’s fielders had an impact, on this substantial victory with Aiden Markram notably excelling through his outstanding catching.

On day five Markram secured his catch of the game by catching Washington Sundar off Simon Harmer’s delivery. This catch established a global record for the most catches by a fielder, in a single Test match.

The previous record was held by India’s Ajinkya Rahane, who took 8 catches against Sri Lanka in the Galle Test in 2017.
