PESHAWAR: The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader and elected MPA from Khyber district, Sohail Afridi, was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) to lead the province.

Mr Afridi became the first Chief Minister from the tribal district of the province and from a middle-class family. He was nominated for the Chief Executive position by the PTI’s founder incarcerated Imran Khan, after he removed former CM, Ali Amin Gandapur.

The oath-taking ceremony took place at the governor’s house in Peshawar on Wednesday. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, administered the oath to the CM-elect, Sohail Afridi.

Including the PTI top leadership, workers from Peshawar city and Khyber district participated in the oath-taking ceremony.

The Peshawar High Court (PHC) announced its reserved verdict on Tuesday regarding the oath-taking ceremony of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The court directed Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Faisal Karim Kundi, to administer the oath to the newly elected chief minister tomorrow, Wednesday, 4 PM.

While announcing the reserved verdict, Chief Justice Peshawar High Court, SM Atique Shah directed the governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to administer the oath to the newly elected Chief Minister, Sohail Khan Afridi, by tomorrow at 4 o’clock; otherwise, the Speaker of the assembly may administer the oath to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
