ISLAMABAD: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Muhammad Sohail Afridi has called off the sit-in outside the Supreme Court after a day-long camp he and other party leadership set up outside the premier court, demanding that the SC Chief Justice facilitate his meeting with the party leader, Imran Khan.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister eventually called off his camp outside the superior court in the Islamabad red zone and left the area disappointedly, as his demands could not be met.

Afridi, who had also staged a sit-in outside Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan is incarcerated, until the early hours of Friday night, arrived at the Supreme Court in the morning.

He briefly left the court premises to offer Friday prayers at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House before returning. Later, Senate Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir also joined the sit-in.

Speaking to the media outside the court, Afridi said the entire nation was deeply concerned about the health of the country’s most popular leader, Imran Khan.

He added that he would seek the assistance of the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to arrange a meeting between the PTI founder and his personal physicians.

The Chief Minister met with the Registrar of the Supreme Court for about ten minutes to express serious concerns regarding the health of the PTI founder.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi had previously staged a sit-in on the lawn of the Supreme Court on Shahrah-e-Dastur to draw immediate attention to the PTI founder’s health. Members of both the national and provincial assemblies of the PTI participated in the protest.

The Chief Minister was awaiting a response from Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi; however, no official reply has been received from the Supreme Court as of now.

During the sit-in, security was heightened, and there were concerns about potential disruptions to traffic in the area.

In a statement to the media, the Chief Minister noted that the details of the PTI founder’s medical examination in jail had not been disclosed to either the family or the lawyers, and the government had refused to confirm this check-up for five days. He emphasised the major concern that there is currently no retina specialist available at PIMS Hospital.
