ABBOTTBAD: Rain and snowfall at higher places have been continuing intermittently since late at night in Abbottabad city and its surroundings, due to which the intensity of cold has increased unusually in the area.
According to the Meteorological Department and local sources, six to seven inches of snowfall have been recorded so far in Thandiani and Ayubia, the famous hill stations of Galiyat. While this new series of snowfall has made the scenery attractive, it has also affected the routine life of the citizens.
To deal with the situation, the Galiyat Development Authority (GDA) has issued a high alert. According to the Director General of GDA Heavy machinery is being used to restore the main highway of Galiyat and the internal roads of the towns to traffic.
Machinery is busy removing snow from the roads, and staff are in the field to deal with emergency work to clear all the connecting roads. Instructions for tourists and citizens: The administration has strictly instructed tourists and local citizens to exercise caution while traveling. Due to slippery conditions, ensure the use of chains on the tires of vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel.
Weather forecast: The Meteorological Department says that the current series of rain and snowfall is likely to continue till this evening, after which the weather will gradually start clearing. However, there is a possibility of a further drop in temperature during the night due to snowfall.
