PESHAWAR: Six terrorists were killed during a high-stakes intelligence-based operation (IBO) conducted by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) in the Shagai area of Lakki Marwat district, officials confirmed on Friday.
Acting on credible information regarding the presence of militants, the CTD Bannu Region’s Swat team moved to cordone off the area. Upon sighting the security forces, the terrorists opened fire, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted approximately 40 minutes.
Following the intense exchange of fire, security forces conducted a search and clearance operation, discovering the bodies of six terrorists. Several other militants managed to escape under the cover of darkness, prompting a follow-up pursuit operation in the surrounding areas. The process of identifying the slain terrorists is currently underway.
A significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the scene, including four Kalashnikov rifles, two pistols, eight hand grenades, and an improvised explosive device (IED). Magazines, cartridges, and other tactical equipment were also seized.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Additional IG CTD commended the SWAT team for the successful operation. “We will chase terrorists to their safe havens and bring them to justice,” the IG Police stated, adding that the “blood of martyrs will not go in vain” as the department remains committed to defeating the enemies of peace.
