PESHAWAR: Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao, Chairman of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) and former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, has denounced the Punjab authorities’ action of halting the flour supply to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) as being radical and dangerous.

He announced on Monday while discussing the situation, saying that the measure had already caused an acute flour scarcity in KP which, subsequently, led to a sudden rise in prices that has made the public worried.

“The Punjab government is not only literally putting out the fire in the poor people’s houses but is also making the already unstable economy, politics, and society completely uncontrolled,” he alleged.

Sherpao also warned that if the matter is not handled very soon, it will lead to suspicion, disregard, and discrimination among the people of Punjab and KP; he termed this a “very dangerous situation for the nation’s unity and stability.”

Moreover, he said that the province of KP was already riddled with security issues, high prices, and unemployment, and that denying the people flour would be tantamount to adding fuel to the fire of the crisis.

“It will make people hopeless and possibly even lead them to join the violent groups,” Sherpao said while appealing to both the federal and provincial governments to adopt a more humane approach.
