ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan will continue to play its active role in restoring lasting peace in the region, and in this regard, Pakistan has played a key role in reviving talks between Iran and the United States.

Speaking at a meeting of the federal cabinet, the Prime Minister revealed that these talks at the highest level between the two countries after a long gap of 47 years are a historic achievement for which the delegations of the United States and Iran came here at the special request of Pakistan.
He thanked the US and Iranian presidents for accepting the invitation and said that Pakistan got this important opportunity to mediate for the restoration of peace.
Giving details of the talks, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that detailed talks continued for 21 hours continuously between the delegations of the two countries, which was the first time of its kind that the delegations of the United States and Iran sat face to face with each other.
He clarified that the leadership of Pakistan worked day and night to make these talks successful and pave the way for world peace. The Prime Minister attributed this success to the foresight and strategy of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, saying that it was due to his insight that an agreement on a temporary ceasefire was possible between the parties.
