ISLAMABAD: Member of the National Assembly Sharmila Farooqi praised the drama serial Pamaal for highlighting the mental suffering and emotional abuse.
Pamaal is a powerful and thought-provoking drama where Malika, played by Saba Qamar, challenges tradition by choosing love over comfort and security. She leaves her father’s home to start a new life with her husband, only to realize that marriage is not the fairytale she expected but a journey filled with pain and struggle.
Talking about the drama’s message, Sharmila Farooqi said that psychological manipulation in marriages is a serious issue that is often ignored in society.
She explained, People usually recognize physical violence as abuse, but they often ignore emotional and psychological control when husbands or families slowly break a woman’s confidence through humiliation, threats, gaslighting, or constant monitoring. This is called coercive control, and it’s one of the most common forms of domestic abuse.
