PESHAWAR: Shafiullah Jan, the Special Assistant to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Information and Public Relations, has praised the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga as a notable success for the provincial administration.
While talking to the media, Shafiullah Jan mentioned that the peace jirga held in the assembly was the turning point for the province’s transformation to peaceful coexistence. He assigned the praise to Chief Minister Mohammad Sohail Afridi and Provincial Assembly Speaker Babar Saleem Swati for their direction and tireless effort in the successful bringing together of these events. As per Jan, the recommendations made during the jirga will be decisive for the region’s peace and security.
Jan also added that the event was backed up with political giants, like the Chief Minister, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Speaker Babar Saleem Swati, Leader of the Opposition Dr. Ibad, ex-governors, ex-chief ministers, tribal chiefs, political parties’ heads, provincial and national media, and civil society representatives, who all came together supporting the same cause. They all offered their recommendations for the enhancement of peace and security in the province.
He pointed out that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Peace Jirga would be considered the day of history, opening up a new era in the province’s history marked with peace.
The Peace Jirga brought the different political factions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to a very rare moment of absolute unity. It is learned from reliable sources that the provincial government along with opposition parties, has united in their agreement over a joint plan of action for the fight against terrorism.
Key Recommendations and Future Steps
Shafiullah Jan disclosed that the jirga had a consensus on 15 major recommendations and these will now steer the provincial government’s decisions. A draft committee consisting of representatives from different political parties was set up to the same end, and henceforth, peacebuilding would be approached in a unified manner.

He pointed out the security challenges in the province that are ongoing, with incidents in Khyber, Katlang, Bajaur, and other areas. These incidents were the reason for the decision to hold such a big peace jirga hoping to unite all the stakeholders of the region through their profession and lifestyle and bring them into discussions and the solution to the most pressing issue of the region: law and order.
Jan was optimistic that with the cooperation of all the political factions, the Peace Jirga would assist Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in dealing with its security issues and transforming the region into a more secure and stable area for the inhabitants.
