PESHAWAR: Shafi Jan, Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Information, has strongly condemned the act of blocking the meeting between Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and PTI founder, calling it a serious violation of the constitution and the law.
He explained that this incident is the ninth time that CM Afridi has been unable to meet with Imran Khan, and all the refusals are despite clear court orders.
Shafi Jan, in his statement, argued that the act of preventing the Chief Minister from meeting Imran Khan was not simply a breach of the law but also a bypass of the judiciary’s instructions. He branded the actions as “highly condemnable” and asserted that such conduct was totally intolerable.
Jan in addition to this stated that the former Prime Minister Imran Khan was being regarded as a “political prisoner” and that all the accusations against him were “false and baseless.” He also pointed out that the attempts to block the meetings of the two leaders were part of a wider conspiracy to isolate Imran Khan from the public and his party. He accused the Punjab government of resorting to dirty tactics to attain this end.
Shafi Jan, moreover promptly demanded judicial decisions to be implemented immediately, threatening that the Punjab administration’s unconstitutional conduct was merely a mockery of democratic values and principles.
The incident has been the source of intense criticism, with various political analysts and opposition leaders labelling it as a straightforward infringement on the democratic rights of the rulers and the people alike. While tensions are growing, the question of whether the Punjab government will be taken to task for its deeds remains unanswered.
