Several shops were gutted as a major fire erupted in Achakzai Plaza, located in Liaqat Bazaar, the busiest commercial hub of Quetta city, on Tuesday.

The fire erupted due to a short circuit, which quickly engulfed a large part of the four-story building. The intensity of the fire was so high that thick smoke emanating could be seen from faraway areas.

As soon as the incident was reported, Pak army and fire brigade, and the rescue teams immediately reached the spot and started rescue operations. Sources said that more than 200 shops were selling mobile phones, computers, and clothes in the building, and the fire spread rapidly, reducing valuables worth millions of rupees to ashes.

Considering the sensitivity of the situation, FC Balochistan troops also immediately reached the spot and took control of the rescue operation. FC personnel are not only assisting the rescue teams in extinguishing the fire, but are also performing the duties of controlling the crowd in the market and shifting people from the affected area to a safe place.

Fortunately, no casualties have been reported so far; however, efforts are still underway to fully control the fire.
