‎ISLAMABAD: The proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment to the Constitution has been postponed for a day.

‎According to informed sources, the amendment bill was likely to be presented during the Senate session on Friday, but it was postponed due to incomplete consultations between the government and coalition parties.

‎Sources say that the decision to postpone the amendment was taken due to a meeting of the Pakistan Peoples Party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC). The party leadership has decided that the final opinion on the draft constitutional amendment will be given only after the CEC approves it.

‎The PPP’s CEC meeting will be held again today (Friday) to consider the proposals related to the constitutional amendment. Some members within the party have expressed reservations about some points of the amendment, which are being sought to be resolved through consultations.

‎According to sources, the Senate session is likely to be convened on Saturday as well, and the amendment bill has been postponed until tomorrow. In today’s session, the House will take up the usual agenda, which will include questions related to various ministries, government statements and approval of resolutions.

‎Parliamentary sources say that the government and coalition parties are busy trying to build consensus on the amendment bill so that the bill does not face any opposition when it is presented in the House.

‎According to political observers, the 27th Constitutional Amendment aims to bring changes in some important provisions related to constitutional and institutional reforms, but their details have not yet been made public.
