The Senate of Pakistan passed a bill to include reproductive health education in the national curriculum.
Under the new law, students aged 14 and above will be given systematic and regular education about reproductive health in schools. According to the bill, reproductive health education will include awareness of physical, mental and social health to provide students with a better understanding of their overall health and well-being.
The new law requires schools to obtain written consent from parents before providing any education related to reproductive health to students. It has also been made mandatory to include age-appropriate and sensitive content in textbooks while preparing the curriculum.
The MPs described the move as an important step to increase awareness among the youth, promote responsible behavior and ensure their overall health and well-being. The bill clarifies that reproductive health education will provide awareness about physical, mental and social health to ensure the overall well-being of students.
Under the law, the school administration will be required to obtain formal and written permission from parents before providing any kind of education related to reproductive health. According to the bill, during the preparation of textbooks, the relevant institution will ensure that reproductive health content is included according to the age and understanding of the students.
