Pakistani security forces on Sunday successfully repelled a coordinated attack by the Khawarij on an Army post in North Waziristan late Saturday evening, according to officials.
Initial reports indicate that the Khawarij opened fire on the post using small arms and under-barrel grenade launchers from multiple directions—North, West, and Southwest. The attackers were believed to be operating from locations 200 to 400 meters away.
Troops stationed at the Army post immediately returned fire, engaging the assailants with precision. Snipers took up advantageous positions, while aerial reconnaissance and quick-reaction forces were deployed to locate and neutralise the attackers. “Fire from hostile positions was effectively silenced,” a security official informed reporters, adding that surveillance drones and mortar teams provided real-time targeting support.
At least one Khawarij was confirmed killed, and another was injured when they attempted to approach the outer perimeter of the Army post from the direction of Sarai Mosque. Further aerial and mortar strikes on fleeing groups are believed to have killed an additional Khawarij, with three to four others sustaining injuries, according to early intelligence assessments.
The exchange of fire subsided by evening, and the area has since been declared secure. No casualties were reported among security personnel. Nearby units were placed on high alert as a precautionary measure. Continuous aerial and ground surveillance remains in place to ensure that no hostile elements re-emerge in the vicinity.
North Waziristan has experienced sporadic Khawarij activity in recent months, as remnants of extremist networks attempt to regroup. In response, security forces have intensified intelligence-based operations (IBOs) to prevent cross-border infiltration and ensure lasting peace in the region.
