A new and life-saving injection for severe asthma patients is likely to be introduced for use soon in the UK.
This injection will be administered only twice a year and will help prevent life-threatening asthma attacks. According to medical research, this long-acting injection called dapimocumab reduces dangerous asthma attacks (which require patients to be hospitalized) by 72%, while its side effects have been reported very rarely. The antibodies included in the drug target inflammation in the lungs. According to the British newspaper, this drug will be offered for sale under a private brand in the first half of 2026. However, the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) will decide next year whether the treatment can be provided on the NHS.
Research has shown that the drug will reduce the severe attacks that are so frightening for patients and lead to hospital admission. The injection was approved by the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) this month.
