ISLAMABAD: Education Minister of Punjab, Rana Sikandar, has cleared up any confusion regarding the extension of holidays in educational institutions.

The Minister confirmed that Punjab schools will begin their normal operation on April 1 because their holiday period ends on March 31. The Minister confirmed that schools will resume their previous activities which existed before the vacation period.

The provincial government of Sindh announced that school closure decisions will depend on the existing conditions throughout the region. The current priority requires authorities to manage price control operations while they work to enhance public transit systems.

The Balochistan government declared that educational institutions will remain closed until March 31 because they issued an official holiday extension announcement. The Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Shahid Rand stated that holiday extensions occurred because of national directives.

School holidays extend in KP

Earlier on March 23, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government announced to extend school holidays and new schedule for the spring holiday announced up to 29 March along with for Eid-ul-Fitr holiday.

According to a recent notification issued by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, 6 more days of holidays have been announced immediately after the Eid holiday. The March 19 to March 21, 2026 (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) were Eid holiday and due to recent extension of holidays Schools, colleges and all educational institutions will now remain closed from March 24 to March 29, 2026.

This decision has been taken as part of the fuel and electricity saving campaign in the province to reduce transport and electricity costs. The provincial government has implemented a new timetable not only for Eid but also for the next two months to save fuel:

Now all government and private educational institutions will remain closed for three days a week (Friday, Saturday and Sunday). There will be regular classes from Monday to Thursday. The Education Department has directed that online classes or home schooling should be arranged wherever possible to avoid educational loss during the holidays.

School clerical staff and admission teams will remain in the offices during the holidays to handle admissions and other office matters.
