PARIS: The world-renowned Pakistani folk and Sufi singer Sanam Marvi was nothing less than a mesmerizing force of nature with her soulful tunes at the Théâtre de la Ville in Paris and was rewarded with a standing ovation by the crowd.
The concert was a joint venture between the Embassy of Pakistan in France and Théâtre de la Ville and allowed the people of Paris to get a rare taste of Sufi and folk music of Pakistan.
Marvi, a popular figure for her powerful vocals and emotionally heavy devotional style, made the world aware of the cultural and spiritual heritage of Pakistan through her music.
Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Pakistan’s Ambassador to France, appreciated Sanam Marvi and her team for their excellent performance.
She was also grateful to the management of Théâtre de la Ville for bringing back the spirit of Pakistani music in the “City of Lights” after a long time. Besides this, she spoke highly of Soudabeh Kia, Musiques du Monde, Counsellor, stating that her support of global art and music is unwavering. The ambassador reminisced that Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, the great, had also performed at the same venue.
Ambassador Baloch underlined that “cultural diplomacy” nowadays can work wonders as a connecting agent not only between individuals but also between societies and nations if the world is considered as a big global village. The ambassador was very much pleased with the venue being packed to the rafters and predicted further artist exchanges between Pakistan and France.

Recalling her time at the concert, Sanam Marvi shared, “Music is an essential part of life, and we love our traditional music. The fact that such a varied and international audience was so enthusiastic really touches my heart.”
