ISLAMABAD: The 26-year-old world record held by India’s former cricketer Rahul Dravid is no more, as Salman Ali Agha, the T20I captain of Pakistan, has managed to break it.
In the year 2025, Pakistan’s cricket team has so far played 54 international matches and Salman Ali Agha has been a part of all of them. This awesome work has made him the player with the highest number of international matches in a single year of the calendar.
It was during the tri-nation T20 series match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe on Sunday that Salman reached this milestone, thus leaving behind Dravid’s record which had been unchallenged for a long time. Back in 1999, Rahul Dravid was involved in 53 international matches, thus setting a record which would not be broken for more than 20 years.
Besides just breaking Dravid’s record, Salman Ali Agha has gone on to become the first Pakistani cricketer to achieve such a feat within a single year. This feat is a good proof of his being the backbone and the mentor of the team.
Besides, the former captain of Pakistan, Mohammad Yousuf, had represented Pakistan in 53 international matches in the year 2000, but this year, Salman’s performance has set a new standard for international appearances in a single calendar year.
His record-breaking performance is yet another way of him, really, in the international cricket arena of Pakistan, to be reckoned with.
