The international community has become increasingly concerned about the recent fierce clashes and increasing military tension on the Pak-Afghan border and urged both countries to immediately stop the use of force and resolve the issues at the diplomatic table.

According to the Russian news agency ‘RIA Novosti’, the Russian Foreign Ministry has issued an important statement expressing deep concern over the growing border hostility between Pakistan and Afghanistan. “We urge both Kabul and Islamabad to exercise utmost restraint and immediately cease cross-border clashes. Instability in the region is not in anyone’s interest, therefore all differences should be resolved through diplomatic channels and negotiations.”

Moscow’s statement comes at a time when the Pakistan Army is responding forcefully to the Afghan Taliban’s aggression under “Operation Ghazb-ul-Haq”. Russia, which closely monitors the situation in Central Asia and Afghanistan, believes that a direct confrontation between these two important countries could provide an opportunity for terrorist groups (such as ISIS and others) to flourish.

Russia’s invitation for talks comes after Tehran’s offer in which Iran expressed its willingness to play a mediating role. Global analysts say that the simultaneous mobilization of Russia and Iran indicates that the major powers of the region do not want to see this conflict turn into a wider regional war.

It should be noted that today (February 27) while large rallies are being held in Landi Kotal and other areas in favor of the Pakistan Army, on the one hand, shelling is also continuing intermittently on the border. Pakistan’s position is clear that until terrorism and unprovoked firing from Afghan soil stop, defensive operations will continue.

Moscow has warned that if the situation is not brought under control immediately, its effects will not be limited to neighboring countries but may also affect the security.
