SOUTH WAIZIRISTAN: Residents of South Waziristan complained about substandard drugs and said that most of the medicines suggested are of substandard quality, which pose an imminent danger to the health of the people.
“There is a flood of substandard and unnecessary medicines in Wana, South Waziristan. The common people are being severely affected by the nexus between medical companies and drug traders. There is no adequate check and balance on the part of the drug inspector and the civil administration, while drug traders are acting arbitrarily,” said local people while talking to Pakhtun Digital.
Local people said that quality medicines are essential for the health of the people, and doctors were also urged to refrain from prescribing unnecessary medicines, which are not effective in treating the condition. They said that the situation is becoming serious for the health sector in South Waziristan.
Most of the medicines available in the market are not only substandard, but many medicines are also being sold that are not necessary for the patients in any way. This is having a direct impact on the health and financial conditions of the people, as people were forced to buy expensive but ineffective medicines.
Due to the nexus between medical companies, local doctors and drug sellers, this business has become unbridled, while there is no effective monitoring system on the part of the drug inspector and the civil administration.
Due to this, neither the quality of medicines is being regularly checked nor is the sale of unnecessary medicines being stopped. The local people demand that the government and the relevant health institutions immediately intervene in this matter, establish a strict check and balance system and ensure the availability of quality and authentic medicines. They also appealed to doctors to prescribe medicines to patients only as per their need, so that there is no additional financial burden on the people and their health is protected.
