SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Residents of South Waziristan said that most of the schools in the area are lying dilapidated condition and demanded concerned authorities to start work immediately for the restoration of these dysfunctional educational institutions.

Local people of South Waziristan complained about the dysfunctional educational institutions in the area and said that a large number of boys and girls are out of school in this modern era, and demanded immediate restoration.

Most of the government boys’ schools in the Ghoakhawa area of South Waziristan are inactive, due to which poor and needy children are deprived of the jewel of knowledge due to the severe lack of educational facilities. Village Chairman Maulana Nek Muhammad blamed the Education Department and the MPA of the constituency for this situation, saying that the negligence of the Education Department has pushed the future of the children into darkness. On the other hand, the Focal Person for MPA confirmed the inactive schools in Ghoakhawa and said that steps will be taken soon to resolve the basic problems faced by the people for a long time.

South Waziristan is one of Pakistan’s poorest regions, with a large portion of the population living below the poverty line. Poverty is a direct and major cause of low school enrolment, as many families cannot afford educational costs and rely on their children’s labour to survive. Beyond the destruction caused by militants, the region’s education system suffers from a chronic lack of basic infrastructure. Many operational schools lack functional classrooms, clean drinking water, and sanitation facilities. “Ghost schools,” which exist only on paper due to corruption or neglect, are also a persistent issue.
