LAHORE: Former captain Rashid Latif has issued unconditional apology for making controversial remarks against Pakistan Cricket Board.
In a clarification of his recent statements made on social media and interviews, Rashid Latif said that it was wrong and baseless to link the removal of wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan from the captaincy due to his support for Palestine.
Latif admitted that his comments were out of order and that he was without any proof of his claims. He also mentioned that the example of the advertisement was only to indicate a possible violation of the government advisory.
He confessed that his ironic remark concerning the dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan as ODI captain was a misinterpretation of his message.
He promised, “I am going to be less responsible for my actions, I am going to be more precise, and I am going to be more cautious with my opinions from now on”.
Latif further promised to be fair, balanced, and constructive in the public forum he will participate in the future.
Muhammad Rizwan refuses to sign central contract amid PCB disagreements
It is worth mentioning here that last month former Pakistan One Day International (ODI) captain and wicketkeeper-batsman, Muhammad Rizwan, has refused to sign the new central contract of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Rizwan has outlined specific conditions that must be met before he will sign the contract, chief among them being a clear explanation for his removal from the T20 squad. Sources indicate that the PCB has not agreed to these conditions and is unlikely to do so in the future.
This year, 30 national cricketers were included in the central contract, but the A category was eliminated. Rizwan has been placed in the B category along with 10 other players. According to reports, all other players, except for Rizwan, have signed the agreement.
It is pertinent to mention that under Rizwan’s leadership, the Pakistan team won ODI series against both South Africa and Australia. However, during the ongoing Test series against South Africa, the PCB unexpectedly stripped him of the ODI captaincy and appointed Shaheen Shah Afridi as the new captain.
