The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) has said that the new moon of Ramazan 1447 AH is expected to be born on Feb 17, 2026 at 5:01pm (PST), with strong chances of its visibility on the evening of Feb 18.

In a statement, Suparco said that at sunset on Feb 18, the age of the crescent would be approximately 25 hours and 48 minutes, making its sighting possible under favorable weather conditions.

The space agency added that the time difference between sunset and moonset is expected to be around 59 minutes along the country’s coastal areas, further improving the prospects of visibility with the naked eye.

Based on astronomical parameters, the agency said there are bright chances of sighting the new moon on the evening of Feb 18. Consequently, the first day of Ramazan is likely to fall on Feb 19, 2026.

However, the final announcement regarding the commencement of the Islamic month will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, which is the competent authority to decide the matter on the basis of credible witness testimonies received from across the country.
