PESHAWAR: Rain and snowfall are expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) over the next two to five hours today on Monday, the Meteorological Department said.
According to the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall are likely in Gilgit, Skardu, Diamer, Ghizer, Astore and Shigar. Similar weather conditions are also expected in the Ghanche district.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, rain and snowfall are forecast for Shangla, Swat, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Mansehra and surrounding areas. The Met Office added that Murree and the Galyat region are also likely to receive rain and snowfall during the period.
Authorities have advised residents and travellers in the affected areas to remain cautious due to the possibility of slippery roads and reduced visibility.
The authorities, on the occasion, advised the travellers to put snow chains on their cars’ tyres while driving in the snowbound areas to avoid any traffic mishap.
Snowfall, rain continue upper parts of the country
The upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received snowfall and rain for the second consecutive day, and rain lashed most regions of the country, which has plunged the mercury on Wednesday.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms, with snowfall over high mountainous areas, across large parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the PMD, rain-wind thunderstorms are most likely in Chitral (Upper and Lower), Dir (Upper and Lower), Swat, Shangla, Upper and Lower Kohistan, Kolai Pallas, Malakand, Buner, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Bajaur, Mohmand, Charsadda, Nowshera, Peshawar, Khyber, Kurram, Orakzai, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, and North and South Waziristan.
The department warned that snowfall may cause road closures and slippery conditions in areas including Naran, Kaghan, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Shangla and the Galliyat during the forecast period. There is also a risk of landslides and avalanches in hilly regions.
Travellers and tourists have been advised to remain extra cautious and avoid unnecessary travel during adverse weather conditions.
During the last 24 hours, rainfall was recorded at Parachinar (13mm), Cherat (9mm), Mirkhani and Drosh (8mm each), Timergara (7mm), Chitral and Upper Dir (5mm each), Malam Jabba and Takht Bhai (4mm each), Pattan (3mm), Peshawar Airport (3mm), Peshawar City (2mm), Kalam (1mm), while Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan received trace rainfall.
Snowfall was reported in Kalam (3 inches) and Malam Jabba (1 inch).
