PESHAWAR: At least 30 people have been killed and 85 others injured in rain-related incidents across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), according to a report issued by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The report, covering the period from March 25 to April 4, highlighted widespread human and material losses caused by recent spells of heavy rainfall in multiple districts of the province. The officials reported that the deceased group included 20 children together with five men and five women who died during the incident. The group of injured individuals consists of 36 men together with 11 women and 38 children.

The rains resulted in major infrastructure destruction which affected 140 houses throughout the area. Of these 115 homes sustained partial damage while 25 houses suffered total destruction because their roofs and walls collapsed.

Bannu Abbottabad Kohat Peshawar Nowshera Bajaur Lakki Marwat Kurram Hangu Shangla Buner Malakand Upper Dir Batagram North Waziristan and Tank make up the list of affected districts.

The PDMA and Rescue 1122 together with district administrations and other agencies are conducting rescue and relief operations to help the communities which have been affected by the disaster.

The PDMA informed the public that rainfall will continue to fall intermittently until April 4 while they advised people to stay away from all areas which include vulnerable zones and tourist locations. Citizens should listen to official alerts together with safety advisories because it represents their best protection against danger.

The authorities stated that proper precautionary steps which people should take at this moment will help them reduce both human fatalities and property damage when weather conditions start to develop.
